A Land Texture is used in the Landscape Editing window to paint a texture, and potentially Grass, onto the terrain.

Land Texture Dialog

  • Texture Set: Texture to be applied with landscape painting. Use the drop-down list to select a Texture Set.
  • Havok Data: Various properties for Havok collisions.
    • Material Type: Determines impact and footstep dynamics for the ground. Use the drop-down list to select a collision material.
    • Friction: How quickly physics objects lose their speed when sliding across the ground. Higher values apply more dampening. Maximum value is 100.
    • Restitution: How well physics objects bounce off the ground (possibly broken in New Vegas). Higher values are bouncier. Maximum value is 200.
  • Texture Specular Component: Unused.
  • Potential Grass: Grass to be generated over the landscape. Drag and drop grasses from the Object Window into the list to assign them to the Land Texture.

Notes

  • When editing landscape in the Render Window, the outer ring of cells in the loaded uGrid will become unresponsive until the active cell is moved closer to them. This can be resolved by setting "bAllowEditLandEdges" to 1 in the GECK Extender INI. Note that landscape edits can still bleed into these cells with the setting disabled; for that reason the dead zone is intended to be a safeguard against edits bleeding into unloaded cells.
  • A frequent bug occurs when landscape painting in both the Fallout 3 and New Vegas versions of the GECK. Terrain in nearby cells will begin to glow brightly. This can sometimes be fixed by refreshing the Render Window with F5, however the most reliable solution is to save the active plugin and restart the GECK.
  • Grass is not rendered in the GECK, which can lead to frustration if unknowingly painting with Land Textures that use it. Such Land Textures from the base game usually include "Grass" appended to their EditorIDs.
  • Each cell is divided into four quads, and each quad is limited to seven Land Textures. Pressing "I" in the Render Window with the Landscape Editing window open will open a list of each quad's textures in the active cell. To remove or replace a texture, right-click it in the list to open the context menu.
  • Land Textures can be used in combination with vertex colors in the Landscape Editing window.
  • Land Textures support glow maps.
