Follow Up

Jump to: navigation, search

Follow Up is a feature introduced in Fallout: New Vegas. It allows a TopicInfo to smoothly jump to another TopicInfo without player interaction after all its lines have been said. It cannot be added by using the standard GECK quest dialogue editor and requires using either the Obsidian conversation editor (which to anyone's knowledge isn't publicly available) or an external editor such as FNVEdit.

It can be used to conditionalize individual dialogue lines, create slight branching in conversations without neccessating audio file duplicates, create responses of non-fixed length depending on individual line conditions and make possible executing of script snippets before/after individual dialogue lines instead of only before the first and after the last one in a TopicInfo.

Notes

  • Follow Up works only on lines spoken in the full dialogue menu, TopicInfos spoken by actors in the game world will ignore any attached Follow Ups.
  • A Follow Up TopicInfo can be both inside the same Topic as the TopicInfo it is attached to or in a different one.
  • If the TopicInfo set as a Follow Up has conditions that aren't met, nothing will happen.
  • A TopicInfo can have more than one TopicInfo added as its Follow Ups. In that case, the game will evaluate the Follow Up TopicInfos top to bottom and the first one whose conditions are fulfilled will be played.
