Unreliable?

I've noticed that this function seems to not be very reliable: even when playing as a law-abiding, "good" character both this and getminorcrimecount seem to be gradually incremented over the course of a game. I've been unable to ascertain whether this is due to the actions of other NPCs, or actions against other NPCs who somehow belong to factions that they shouldn't (i.e. perhaps Raiders being aligned with Megaton residents, for example - though this is pure conjecture, I've seen no actual evidence) or whether it simply returns incorrect data. If it was a one-off I'd let it go, but there's a "crime" tally against numerous different factions now.

It seems somewhat reminiscent of the "stolen items" bug in Oblivion where it would occasionally be incremented for taking non-owned items, and perhaps the major crimes is also an echo of Oblivion's spurious "assaults" rap when getting in the first strike against even an evil character.

The effects it has on dialogue options are pretty irritating. Though I'm hoping someone might come along saying "do x, y or z to fix it" I guess I'm also saying "use with caution!" --vom 02:37, 30 September 2009 (UTC)

Edited to add: for the record, this was observed under v1.7. I didn't see it with v1.0, but I haven't played the intervening versions. --vom 13:23, 30 September 2009 (UTC)
